It has been a privilege to serve you as the Representative from HD 11 for the past year. Over the course of the summer, however, I began to wonder if my particular abilities might be put to better use if I served on the Board of County Commissioners. With that in mind, I began to explore the idea by attending meetings not only of the Commissioners, but of the various departments that serve Boulder County.
After a great deal of thought I decided that I would not run for reelection as your Representative, but instead seek the nomination to run for the seat of Commissioner from District 2 in November 2012.
Things changed when Larry Hoyt announced his retirement as the County Attorney and County Commissioner Ben Pearlman was appointed to take his place. This left a vacancy on the Board of Commissioners which I was elected to fill by the County Democrats' Central Committee on January 8th. It was determined by attorneys not only for the county, but for the Boulder County Dems that I needed to take my place on the Board of Commissioners in time for their January 10th Reorganization meeting. The reason for this is that nearly 100 County employees were going to be sworn in at that meeting, and a full 3 Commissioner Board would be necessary in order to do that. This in turn left a vacancy in HD 11.
This HD11 Vacancy will be resolved this coming Saturday, January 21st at 9:30 am at the Longmont Progressive Center at 723 Main Street. The public is welcome to attend, although only members of the HD11 Vacancy Committee may vote. For a map, or more information, please click here.
I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful support you gave me during my time as your Representative. I am confident you'll do the same for my successor.
Sincerely,
Deb Gardner, Former State Representative for HD11
